As for the clean-up, my approach is similar to Shaz's, as mentioned by mousehunter in the comment above: I bring out the vacuum cleaner, and threaten to suck up every single one of my 4-year-old's toys if it's not out of my way in 3 minutes. It works - she picks them up *frantically* and I hoover the place in peace :). (I think I'll be okay until she discovers that every toy cannot be swallowed up by the vacuum). How wonderful – the not-fighting bit – enjoy it while it lasts.
