Why, people?
When 14 month old is tired,he won’t just go to sleep? And why must he cry for ages before falling asleep? Even when I’m nursing him off to sleep he must have that last sob before he’s gone la-la.
When 3 year old is tired he will be VERY ANNOYING and ANGRY and cry for the slightest thing. And when I try to put him for a nap, he doesn’t want to. When I know and he knows and the WHOLE FAMILY can see he is exhausted. Why then does he finally fall asleep at the dinner table in mid mouthful? Yes, it *is* the cutest thing.
When 6 year old is exhausted and physically drained why does he STILL comes out of his room and say that he can’t sleep; he isn’t tired; he heard a funny noise?
And riddle me this, people. Why, when 32 year old is so tired in the middle of the day that she can barely open her eyes and she’s slurring her words when she’s reading the children a story, she just CAN’T have one short nap.
ONE SHORT NAP, IT’S ALL I ASK! *cries*
Just riddle me this, people. RIDDLE ME THIS.
*sigh*

Oh Lord, why are they most beautiful when asleep?
Sounds so much like my house!!
I’m almost as bad as the kids some nights. I will be so very tired, but will stay up too late just to enjoy the quiet time without any kids bothering me.
I hear kiddie bootcamp is the way to go…
it puts the fun back into fundamentalism and crying will be a distant memory like Apartheid.
should try it sometime.
The only time my eight year old said to me that she was sleepy we recorded it on video!
The little one goes to sleep when he’s sleepy. He’s like his mum. He doesn’t care what he’s missing. I love him for that. And Mashallah!
Well, the 32 year old mother can’t sleep cuz the three little bears are never tired!
Salamaat,
awww…hugggzzz!
If you ever find out the answers please let me know
salam Tasmiya,
i remember my kids going through those phases – it’s really tough each one of them. Thank God they grow out of it.
But to me, it sounds like in each of the 3 situations the child is over-exhausted. You have to try to catch them in the first sign of tiredness. If you miss that window then they get hyper and difficult to put to sleep.
For my 3yr old, we have quiet time at 12:30/1 ish and if he woke up early that morning he will sleep and if not then he will just lay down next to me until quiet time is over. He’s gotten to the phase where he only needs a nap every other day or every 3 days. My 5 yr old will only give me a hard time at night if she has slept in school during nap time. Otherwise she’s out like a light.
Koonj – They’re beautiful when they’re asleep because they’re quiet and not up to mischief!
Surviving – I do that sometimes too. Husband will ask me what I am doing awake when I’m so tired. I really need that time to unwind.
Jaaved – nah. I’m too much of a softy to let them cry. I think Supernanny is a bit of a meanie sometimes.
Suroor – I have a nephew like that. No matter where he is or what time it is, if he’s tired he will find a quiet spot somewhere and fall off to sleep. It’s gorgeous.
Maliha
Em – When I find out, I will be one rich lady. Don’t worry – I’ll sell the answers to you real cheap
Mona – I really need to implement this “quiet time.” I need to be a bit more strict with keeping it going every day and sticking to my guns.
Eat when hungry, sleep when tired, no matter what time of day or night. Hey, that sounds like me too!!
Goo goo!
this sounds like my house too! my kids get so hypo when they are tired and my husband doesn’t believe me when i say they need to sleep..he thinks that tired children simply lie down and close their eyes! If only it was that simple. thankfully when i’m desperate i ask my husband to take them and let me get some sleep. but when they are newborns it can’t be done.
