When in actual fact it is Wednesday but whatevs:
What are your plans for Eid day? If you aren’t Muslim (and where have all my non-Muslim readers gone? *sob*) What do you do on Christmas Day?
I expect a gazillion replies – unless of course you are on itikaaf in which case – GET OFF THE COMPUTER AND START MAKING DUA FOR US. Please.

It is still Tuesday where I’m at.
No plans here for Eid. My husband will probably end up working so there really isn’t much we can do.
Oh that is a shame! I managed to get the weekend off work for the time that Eid is supposed to be alhamdulillah. I do remember working one year on Eid day – it wasn’t much fun at all.
My husband’s work will be especially busy because of Eid. I’ve always been able to get Eid off when I worked in the past. Although I called in sick my first year, it was a last minute decision. My oldest will actually be out of school for a little over a week because of Eid. We really haven’t talked about it. Maybe we could do something for the family after I get home from work on Monday afternoon.
I think we’ll be traveling to Oman. If not, Eid will be like every other Eid, prayers and then rounds of family vists and friends. Lots of yummy food and exchanging of gifts.
Laughter, good food, great company. I love Eid!
I am a non muslim
i eat sewaiyan (sheer khurma i think for the more knowledgable) for Eids, yes both the Eids since I can’t cook meat anyway.
For Christmas I buy and eat cake.
and for Diwali I eat sweets again.
These all when I am away from home (for the past 5 years)
so you see i ONLY eat at festivals.
At least it is an honest answer, please at least give me grace marks to pass
We celebrate Christmas.
Christmas Eve is the night that we spend with my family. We go to dinner at my aunt’s house, with most of my cousins and aunts and uncles on my mom’s side. Then, we head back to my parents’ house around 8 or 9 PM to open gifts and spend more time together. I usually go to midnight Mass with my dad, and my husband either hangs out with my mom or goes home since he’s not Catholic.
Christmas Day, my husband and I go through our Christmas stockings, give the cat his Christmas stocking loot (what?), and exchange any gifts we got each other.
Last year, his grandmother hosted a Christmas get-together at her house on the Friday before Christmas. We’re really hoping she makes that the new tradition, because if they go back to getting together on Christmas Eve again, we’ll have to miss it.
We also host a party at our place for our friends, sometime during the week before or after Christmas, and it’s one of my very favorite holiday traditions. We call it Thanksmas Eve, because it started one year as a combination Thanksgiving / Christmas / New Year’s Eve party. Everyone brings food, Thanksgiving style, and then we exchange gifts…except last year we decided that instead of buying more stuff for each other, we’d all donate to a charity and then exchange small, more personal gifts. I made Christmas ornaments, one girl made fudge, two people made mix CDs for everyone, one girl knitted little ornaments and also made a cat toy for everyone who had a cat. It was a great, sweet touch for the holiday
Aluchaat’s way of celebrating sounds FUN
I’m down with that. looollll
and…
OMG I have no plans. Well I do plan on not stinking up my hair and clothes with meat curry smell like last year. Though now I laugh about it and it’s become a cute memory. :”)
I am so sorry. Here I was making it out like Christmas and Eid are the only religious/festivals out there. Here is Australia there are many non-Christians who “celebrate” Christmas as a day for family get togethers and an excuse to have a party.
Mona – oh the food!
Aluchaat – I do like that idea. And please do not feel as though you have to pass anything to comment here – all are welcome and especially you. I have not forgotten that I need to teach you the secret of the armpit fart. I fear if I tell you, I will have to kill you.
Velocibadgergirl – thank you so much for sharing. It sounds like a very hectic but of course very enjoyable week around that time of year for you and your family. I LOVE the idea of gifts for the cats. How sweet!
Gulnari – That meat curry smell doesn’t leave the hair or the clothes! Isn’t it annoying? Looking so nice but smelling like burnt onions and meat. The trick is not to cook on that day
Usually we have a little get together at our place for a past couple years, well since v1 can understand the importance of Eid. This year, maybe by the inlaws, or perhaps we’ll head down to The Dome (cough cough Rogers Centre cough cough) for their Eid day festival with rides etc. I guess we’ll play it by ear
Tasmiya, I insist that you teach me that secret of armpit fart coz i have a 29 day old nephew who is grwoing so fast. I’d need it soon.
and i am willing to sacrifice my life also to teach him that and be a proud aunt in the heaven!
When he is ready, I will spill the beans. We cannot rush these things, you know.
