I have lots to say today and not that much time to say it. My new nerdy friend Susan please forgive the spelling and grammatical errors. Thanks for visiting and commenting and thank you so much for possibly being the only one who understood my nerdy post. I will reply to your questions a little later inshaAllah. Ok onward:
I’m peeved with the government (what else is new?) – This whole anti-Muslim/anti-hijab/un Austrayn stuff is making me nauseous.
Edited to add the links here and fix a few mistakes but I’m pretty sure there are heaps more -sorry.
Education minister..yes, you read that right..the EDUMACATION minister of this country has decided that Muslim students in Muslim schools should be taught Austrayn values and those who don’t agree with these Austrayn values “should clear off“. Of course what these values are are a bit of a mystery but I did read him say something about tolerance and “fair go” and mateship, doing our best blah blah blah. I mean we all know that Islamic schools in Australia are teaching the exact opposite – Dr Nelson was actually taught at the local Islamic school so he should know. (/sarcasm of course). It’s stupid because I never learned about Austrayn values when I was at school because you know what..it’s all just common sense. Islamic schools aren’t out there telling their students to go and bomb people or to hate non-Muslims or to NOT do our best. Why single out the Muslims, anyway? Where is the respect anywhere? I’m not even going into the simpson/donkey story because it’s all too ludicrous. Did any of us learn about that when we were kids? Didn’t the guy kill Muslims?
Then we have the beautiful Bronwyn Bishop and some other lady (who sounds very FOREIGN to me..are we sure she’s allowed into this country because she sounds like she’s Greek or something – I hope she changes her name to Cheryl so we can call her Chez and she can be a real Austrayn) telling us that hijab should be banned because the Muslim girls in schools are only really wearing it to REBEL. Yeah, that’s one way to get at your Muslim parents, girls – start covering up! This reminds me of my university days.I didn’t do it to rebel (I was a nerd, remember) but one day decided I wanted to get my nose pierced – off to the hairdresser who crunched the cartilage OUCH and then I thought about going home, what would my mum say? Would she be annoyed, angry, irritated, force me to take it out? Well the bus drive home was TORTURE ..mum – what would she say? I decided I wouldn’t wait for her to spot it – I’d just come out and tell her the minute I walked in the door.
“Mum..look what I did!”
“What is it?”
“Here,” I say, pointing at my nose.
“Oh, that’s nice.”
Yep..guys. That’s all she said. Do you know why? Because I’m (wait for it…)
INDIAN! Nose rings are what we do!
Oh gosh I’ve forgotten what I was talking about…
Well yes now I remember – the point is that hijab is hardly a rebellious thing to do when you’re Muslim. I wonder when Ms Bishop and Ms Popodopopolopolous realised they could read minds and didn’t have to ask any Muslim females why they are actually wearing hijab.

Hey Tasmiya!
This is Courtney from playgroup, I totally agree with your frustration with our government. My husband and I look for any excuse to express our thoughts about the governments decisions. We go to anti-war, free refugee’s, reconcilliation marches and protests with kids and all. Daisy was only about 3 months old when we went on our first protest. Really cool! Makes you feel better at least.
I feel sorry for muslims being targeted but it’s always someone. My husband and I both have tattoo’s, we are all scum and criminals for having tattoo’s. I was born in America, New Orleans of all places. Not much left of it now. I grew up here since I was 5 yrs old. I don’t admit it very often as I am ashamed of the American government even more than the Australian one. They are all the same!!!
I can’t wait to teach my children the truth about these political things not the propaganda from the government and media. Sorry, got a bit carried away.
See ya,
Courtney.
P.S. Love the new site!
salaams
don’t worry- i think your grammar is pretty good
and as i seem to suffer from a strange form of typing dyslexia (i regularly type “about” as “baout” for example), i’m hardly one to judge. abd i;m too darn lazy to use the shift key, hence my disgraceful lack of capitalisation. and i dare to call myself a nerd?!?!
i read your nerdy post to my husband, and he had a good laugh, too, especially about the ‘Mendlebrock rokcs’ part. See? I married a nerd, too.
Perhaps we should start a Muslim nerd convention.
Love your new blog, and think you’re pretty darn cool yourself.
Love wasalaam
Susan
oops= meant “mandlebrot”. sorry. i’m so drowning in my thesis, i can barely stringa sentence together. apologies!
