Nag Status Update

So..for those FIVE of you still reading my blog – husband, sister-in-law, sister in UK, sister here in Brisbane, unknown person who searches for “tasmiya blog” everytime they visit (have you heard of bookmarking?! It’s so much easier than searching for me every day) – the nag has well and truly gone and mornings are much more relaxed. For me.

The boys still dawdle, snigger and laugh and get distracted but you know what? They get what needs to be done in the time they have. So far, two days in a row have gone pretty smoothly and I owe it all to MYSELF! (just kidding) I don’t tell them anything. I just warn them every now & again how much time they have and they do it. Of course it’s all the boys’ hard work. I think I just needed to trust them enough that they can manage their own time themselves.

Time management has never been a friend of mine. We’ve actually been enemies since day one and it’s nice to know that God willing my boys will have a much better relationship with her than I ever did.

Strike One!

The boys are home today. The teachers are on strike! Honestly, what are we living in Zimbabwe all over again? I do respect teachers (except for one who seems to pick on my son..yes I’m looking at you) and respect their right to strike and know that they are not paid well enough for all they have to do and I am actually very happy the boys are at home. But you know what? Is it really going to help? To stop work? Is it solving anything?

I’m all for workers’ rights and maybe when I type this sentence out then I’m not for workers’ rights at all but striking  comes across to me as childish as a tantrum. I’m just going to sulk here until someone gives me what I want. See? How do you like that? Huh? I don’t know all the details. I don’t know how long they’ve been discussing, arguing, compromising or negotiating. I really don’t. Maybe that’s the problem.

In any case, I’d like to thank the teachers for going on strike today so I didn’t have to rush the boys away from me. So they can be here with me all day and I don’t have to rush my day to pick them up. Our day will be relaxed, full of fun and best of all the boys will be together.

So teachers, even if today’s strike makes the government cave in to your demands you’re more than welcome to go on strike tomorrow and the next day. This mother gives you her full support.
