Chicken Pox

We’ve been stuck at home for the past 3 1/2 weeks – chicken pox being the main culprit and now rain that doesn’t look as though it will ever stop. Yes, great if it goes into the dams and waters the crops but when when when will I get my washing done? Nice to see my priorities are sorted.

All 3 boys have been infected with the pox (POX ON YOU!)- even poor 7 month old. Alhamdulillah they have all recovered well and we’re just waiting for the lesions to heal so we can get out of the house. I’ve enjoyed having 5 year old at home. We haven’t done anything but play (and most of my time is spent trying to stop the older boys from fighting – what is going on here?) and our mornings are blissfully lazy.

Fact sheet on Chicken Pox

Excellent anti-itch stuff

Australian Varicella Vaccination Program – I know immunisation always brings about a bit of debate. Natural immunity, homeopathic immunisations and not vaccinating=child abuse and all of that. Please, keep it nice if you want to comment. :)

“So how was school today?”

“It was OK.”

“Just OK? What did you learn about?”

“Oh, you know – stuff. Can I have a chocolate when we get home?”

“Maybe after you’ve had something healthy to eat. So what new words did you learn today?”

“Hmmmm I can’t remember.”

“Did your teacher read you a book?”

“No.”

“So what happened? You can’t have spent 6 hours away from me and have nothing to tell me.”

“Oh, I don’t know, Mummy. I played outside with T**** and H**** and I ate most of my lunch.”

Everyday it’s the same. He leaves me and on his return the last thing he wants to do is talk about his day. I on the other hand am itching to know what occupies his time, what he talked about, who he spoke to, what activities the class did.

Did he get into trouble today?

Did he finish his cutting and pasting?

Was anybody mean to him in the playground?
