My children have got this delaying thing to a fine art
We’ve been through the whole bedroom routine after dinner:
-pyjamas
-toilet
-brush teeth
-gargle with mouthwash
-sip of water
-reading a story
-talk about the story and general chatting
-prayers
-kisses and “I love you”s
-lights out
All is quiet for about 15 minutes and then 2 year old pipes up, “WHAT ABOUT DESSERT?”

kids are creatures of habit – if you ever miss one step in the routine then they go buzurk on you.
Mine will come down complaining that things are keeping him from sleeping:the tv, the dog across the street, his brother, cars on the road, etc…
too funny..
my 6 old daughter is not happy to go to the bathroom by herself she prefers an audience of her siblings
i have to make my 4 1/2 girl to promise not to get out of bed before i make it to my 2 yr old son’s room (only a few seconds away) and with him, afterr i’ve covered him he has to jump out of bed and say he wants another hug..in a whiny voice…and after he’s already gotten at least a dozen..
subhanAllah. then when they are all asleep that maternal guilt kicks in and i pray that i will just be a better mom the next day..
thanks for sharing delaying tactic #245, by children are definantly close to 300 too..!
Um Ibrahim – the thing is that we had already eaten dessert (I guess for my 2 year old, fruit isn’t a dessert!)
Surviving – my boys do that sometimes, too. 2 year old will throw his teddy off the bed and call me to say that “he’s fallen down and got hurt” so I have to kiss the teddy and tuck him back into bed.
Suhaa – so cute about your 6 year old needing an audience! I’m also all too familiar with the maternal guilt at the end of the day. But alhamdulillah the guilt is good if it makes us vow to work harder at being better parents.
