I’ve often wondered about the netiquette when it comes to comments. I love getting comments and I read them all. I don’t always reply. Sometimes I reply by email. It isn’t that I don’t love my commenters and the comments I get. I LOVE seeing my inbox flashing to tell me someone has left a message. Sometimes I make a note to reply to a comment and then just forget to do it (kind of like my LONG LONG list of people who I owe emails-Tracey, Courtney, Renee and Fee). Part of me thinks that it’s the height of rudeness not to reply then there’s a silly voice telling me that it’s arrogant to reply to some comments. I mean it isn’t like the commenter is refreshing the page and visiting my blog every hour to see if I’ve replied.
Bloggers:
1. Do you make it a policy to reply to every single comment (I understand it would be difficult if you have many visitors and many people leaving comments)?
2. Do you reply by email? (I know you do, Aly
)
3. Do you read all your comments?
Commenters/readers:
1. Do you always (or nearly always) expect a reply from the blogger or are you happy leaving your comment and go along your merry way?
2. Would you be offended if the blogger didn’t reply?
I understand that some comments don’t really need replies but please let me know what you think

I feel all special to be a blogger!
1. Do you make it a policy to reply to every single comment? I don’t reply to every comment, no. If it’s a question directed at one of my posts, absolutely – and if it’s supportive feedback (like through Sunday Scribblings) I’ll sometimes leave a collaborative “thankyou!” comment. But I prefer to leave the comments box for the “commenters” and just do all of my yakking away in my Ramblings!
2. Do you reply by email? (I know you do, Aly
) Haha! Yes, I do – although most people don’t email me anyway. Bit of a chatterbox, if you hadn’t noticed..
3. Do you read all your comments? YES! I still have to say it, even though I blog for myself I get really excited when people leave comments. It’s a thrill to know that people actually read and enjoy (or completely hate) your writing enough to take the time to post.
It’s sort of funny, I lurk alot of blogs, but most of the time I comment too. To each their own!
-Aly
See? I told you I’m a chatterbox!
Salamaat,
I am a brat, i love attention, whether on my blog or others. When I get comments and there’s nothing I can add to it; I try to reciprocate on the commentators blog.
If they don’t have a blog; at least a thank you email once in a while in acknowledgement.
I have commented on a few sites; but when I consistently don’t receive any response, it makes me nervous (or insecure) don’t they want me to comment? Is this annoying them? etc.
so sometimes i just lurk…
okay i am a nut case; and a chatter box:) beat that Aly:)
Salaam,
Bloggers:
1. I used to and still try to but don’t always manage, so I often just say hello to everyone generally and then answer any questions I’ve been asked specifically.
2. If someone contacts me by email I always reply to them, even if a bit late.
3. YES. I especially love the ad spam.
Commenters/readers:
1. Usually the latter unless I’ve asked something specific. But then, I would porbably do that in an email instead of a comment.
2. Nah, their lives don’t revolve around me!
(I found your blog from The Imam’s Daughter.)
I pretty much respond to all comments on my blog, especially if someone asks a question. I get pretty irritated when I ask a question and it’s not responded to.
I don’t have my email address on my blog, so if someone wants to email me they have to ask me for it. Then, of course, I respond. I’ve never had a reason to reply to a comment with an email, but that doesn’t mean it won’t happen.
I don’t “expect” a response to comments I make on your blog. But when I do get one it’s an extra special day and I get all excited. So don’t go responding to all of them or I’ll lose my “tickled pink” feeling I get when I find a reply or email from Tasmiya.
Salaam;
Oooh, essay questions!
Bloggers:
1. Do you make it a policy to reply to every single comment?
I used to, but it’s time-consuming and I don’t always have anything enlightening to add.
It also depends on the comment system — some are easier than others.
2. Do you reply by email?
If it’s something requiring my immediate attention, but it’s not something that I would discuss on the blog, I do. Otherwise, I’ll reply in the comment section.
3. Do you read all your comments?
Each and every one! I love ‘em all!!
Commenters/readers:
1. Do you always (or nearly always) expect a reply from the blogger or are you happy leaving your comment and go along your merry way?
It depends on the comment and the blogger. I do always go back and read the latest comments, but I’m not disappointed if the blogger hasn’t responded. I enjoy reading other people’s comments.
2. Would you be offended if the blogger didn’t reply?
Nah. We all got our own real lives outside the blog. Replying to every comment isn’t possible if you’ve also got meals to cook, a house to clean, children to look after, a job to do, etc. Besides, if I had a question which really required an answer, I’d email the blogger and hope that she had the time to reply.
Bloggers:
1. Do you make it a policy to reply to every single comment?
Yes. I don’t get many, so for now i am able to do so. unless i get busy and forget, which happens every now and then.
2. Do you reply by email?
Not usually.
3. Do you read all your comments?
Yes of course.
Commenters/readers:
1. Do you always (or nearly always) expect a reply from the blogger or are you happy leaving your comment and go along your merry way?
yes i always come back to see the blogger’s reply. I expect a reply unless i left a comment that needs no response like ‘Jazaki Allahu khair’ or ‘cute’ or ‘funny LOL’.
2. Would you be offended if the blogger didn’t reply?
in some cases, yes. i don’t like being ignored repeatedly, to be honest. but i don’t expect a reply to each and every one of my comments. i understand it may be difficult, depending on each blogger’s situations.
No Comment!! hehe
Bloggers:
1. Do you make it a policy to reply to every single comment?
I try. But i’m slow because a reply has to “brew” in my head for a few days. I want my replies to sound like a mini conversation, and i want the commenter to feel that i appreciate everything that was said to me. It takes me a while to put those thoughts into a reply.
2. Do you reply by email? (I know you do, Aly
)
No, unless we have something private to talk about.
3. Do you read all your comments?
Heck yeah
Commenters/readers:
1. Do you always (or nearly always) expect a reply from the blogger or are you happy leaving your comment and go along your merry way?
Most of the time no, although it’s nice, but i know that it often takes a lot of effort and time to reply. I might check back a couple times, but mostly i just go on my merry way. However, if i asked a specific question, i do expect a reply.
2. Would you be offended if the blogger didn’t reply?
NO! People are busy, and sometimes discussions just end, and there’s nothing more to add
I try to reply to all comments – and I definitely read all of them! I reply in the comment box, because I enjoy reading conversations in other people’s comment boxes between readers and bloggers.
As a reader, when I have plenty of time I do check back to see if a blogger has replied to my comment, but I tend to do it some time after leaving the comment.
