Oh my GOSH I love this country!
TEN WORKING DAYS -that’s how long I can expect to wait for an Australian passport. A PASSPORT! I don’t even have to wait in a queue. I book my interview at a recognised Australia Post post office, turn up with the completed forms and VOILA – they check stuff out, lodge it in to the passport office and it’s done. We are so spoilt here.
We have a few paperbark trees at the edge of our street. They’ve become overgrown and branches and leaves are obstructing our view of traffic. A quick call to the council and I will have a vegetation officer come and inspect the trees. He/she will pop a written report in my letterbox telling me what will be done and in the next TEN to 15 WORKING DAYS the offending trees will either be pruned or cut off. Did you hear that..A VEGETATION OFFICER! Australia has vegetation officers.
Yep. Love this country.

Yep. Your lucky to be Australian.
The e-banking system is so darn good I dont have to bother going to ATM or bank anymore. I like the way the council provide houses, fix them to be livable, paint them and mows the grass for refugees and underprivileged people, pronto. Unfortunately in Msia, the underprivileged dont get much attention from the govt agency in this respect.
Too right..this country really is the best.
Accidents get cleaned up quick smart, traffic signals that are on the blink (no pun intended!)get fixed up quick as well… and even pot holes don’t stay that way forever..because someone, somewhere has made the council aware and as a result, the roads become ok again.
You get so used to ‘order’ and how everything just works here… In South Africa, I saw an accident the day I landed in Jo’burg and a few traffic lights were knocked out and there was debris everywhere.. and 2 weeks later when I left Jo’burg, nothing had changed. Everything was still a mess.
That wouldn’t happen in Austraya! and thank heavens for that!
Umm-Fi-Ard: I occasionally do the internet banking thing but I’m too scared about security (even though husband has assured me many times it’s OK).
Jaaved: You just *know* I was comparing it to Africa. The queues there for everything are ridiculous! We went to the Mozambique embassy in South Africa to pick up passports and Oh. My. God. The room was packed with people waiting and you could see the staff behind the counter..NOT DOING ANYTHING or sitting and having a cup of tea or whatever. Then 5 minutes before closing up, they start handing out the passports. Halfway through time is up and then close up, telling all those people who missed out to come tomorrow!
