Book club
I take BACK my WOOHOO and replace it with “OH MY GOD!”
The boys have decided to wage war against each other at every opportunity and for no reason at all. I am HERE boys. I am HERE watching you annoy each other, lash out and then hit each other. No shame! Just get along for goodness sake. For all you know in 15 years time you may be on different sides of the planet and be missing each other terribly.
I have just finished reading The Kite Runner. Please do not read this book – you will start the first chapter bawling and each subsequent chapter you will cry more. I could not speak to husband when I read the final page as mucus was streaming out of my red nose and tears were dripping onto the book – I was sobbing LIKE A BABY. So after gym last night (I am going twice a day – how is that for insanity?), I cried some more and could not speak to husband. At bedtime I sobbed again. And all he asked me was, “So, is it a happy ending?” ( I will not answer as I am not a party pooper and would hate to spoil it for you all.)

HA!
So now I need a light, funny tale as I could not possibly read through another tearjerker. He is a marvelous storyteller by the way. Any ideas on a book a little less emotionally exhausting?

That is a fantastic book. I was hooked after the first chapter as well, although without the tears and sniffling
Ah…the poor butler…don’t you just feel for him? haha.
Haven’t read anything light-hearted, don’t think I ever have…except in junior school
Go read some comics.

Without the tears? you heartless creature
Comics? Don’t you get husband started – those comics of his are full of death, maiming, destruction. Plus, I can never follow which picture I am supposed to be reading next so I sort of lose sense of the plot.

Dont read the other book by Khaled Hosseini then, another tearjerker. I read them both. So sad.
I recommend Life of Pi about a boy drifting in a small lifeboat. It’s witty and somewhat humorous.

Kite Runner was a great book. It was actually the first novel I read in a long while that resparked my need to read. I want to read Thousand Splendid Suns, but I hate reading hardcover books…they are too clumsy. Waiting until its out on paperback
Lighthearted books just do anything for me. I don’t feel satisfied after reading them, I like thrillers, currently half way through James Patterson’s Alex Cross series.
Actually I just finished reading Angels & Demons. That is a great book too. But I recommend you read Da Vinci Code first so you can appreciate it, then you can read Angels and Demons to get a better appreciation of how much better it is

umm-fi-ard – a book about a boy drifting in a lifeboat? Are we talking young boy without parents going it alone in rough seas full of man-eating sharks and perilous storms? And you say it’s humorous?!
Brainsmoke – I am so out of the loop when it comes to books nowadays (that plus I am a bit more of a classics buff) – haven’t read Da Vinci Code.
Mona – Did you cry? I do not do sad stories well so I don’t think I will even attempt Thousand Splendid Suns. I will search for a Garfield comic when next I am at the library.

I just read Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen and LOVED it. It was magical and wonderful, and had such a happy ending. I definitely recommend it!

I guess I would have to add that the boy was on the lifeboat with a few animals but 1 animal remained with him til the end of the journey – the tiger. The story has a sense of humor, seriously. Who would concoct a story like that?

It is a good book to digest, (pun not intended). And the boy journey starts from India outbound. When I started reading, I was wondering how would a skinny Indian boy survive in a small life boat with an enormous tiger.. (the sharks and storms are the least of his worries!!) I hope I’m not giving away too much! Okay, gtg and get reading more books in this miserable cold weather.
