Montreal dad got to hospital in time, but still delivered wife’s baby himself
A Montreal man got his wife to the Royal Victoria hospital in lots of time for her to have her baby, but he says he still had to deliver it himself because there was no medical staff around to help.
and more…
But the baby arrived before the nurse did, Schouls said.
“[Karine] just kind of leaned back, and all of a sudden I see the baby starting to come out,” he said.
“I just put my hand on his chest, and my fingers around his armpits, and my other hand kind of on his face …and I just pulled him out.“
Woah. Way to go, dad. I guess your wife was just sitting around filing her nails and reading a novel. Lord knows how she managed without you. Another thing – Did any other mothers open their mouths wide and shut their thighs tight in complete horror to think that he actually PULLED THE BABY OUT? Then again, once the HEAD, the SHOULDERS and the CHEST are completely out, all mum has to do is pass a little gas and baby can slip out quite easily so talk about completely superfluous act of “heroism” from the father.
In other news – a hundred thousand children were born without the presence of any male and they are all alive and doing well. The mind boggles.

well to be honest,if my husband were in that place,he would have fainted,at least the guy did something.
Actually this is something that is big news as the hospital is embarrassed and so is the health care system. Canadians pride ourselves on the our healthcare and frankly, there should have been a nurse there.
As Mezba said, I think this article says more about the lack of medical staff available than the father taking credit. I think it’s very telling about our healthcare system (here in Canada) that you can arrive at the hospital and still not get timely care. Hubby has had to help with the comp system at the local hospital and has seen 6 or 7 ambulances waiting in queue for the patients to be admitted! The EMT staff suggest to go in to ER yourself rather than call them as you will be seen much faster!
We need more doctors and hospitals!
Hehe!
I get that the article is highlighting woefully inadequate staff numbers at the hospital but really hate the way it’s just so husband-centric. Yes there should have been a nurse present because they chose to have the baby at the hospital but why is there all this talk about what HE did? In reality, it was the woman who gave birth, assisted (and I use that term lightly) by her husband.
