Today my youngest child turned 4. We had a little get-together with the family yesterday afternoon (seeing as today is a weekday and everyone is busy with school/homework/work etc). While his birthday cake was not difficult to make, it was nevertheless time consuming but am so glad the colours worked out (I can imagine it would be a wonderful “coming out” cake.) The instructions are here – I didn’t actually follow the same recipe, just the general idea – I used one my old, trusted plain cake recipes. The colours on the original are spectacular but it looks as though there is more icing than cake!)
4 year old: So it’s my birthday today?
Tasmiya: Yep! You are 4 years old!
4 year old: So, what cake are you making for me?
Tasmiya: That rainbow cake I made for you yesterday, that’s your birthday cake.
4 year old: But. But. Today is my BIRTHDAY and you have to make me a BIRTHDAY cake.
Tasmiya: *sigh* but that cake was so yum and nice and everyone came to say, “Happy Birthday!” yesterday, remember?
4 year old: I wanted cupcakes today.
Tasmiya: Well, I can’t make them right now, it’s close to bed time.
4 year old: That’s ok. You can make them when you wake up tomorrow. I want them pink.

Looks like an early start for me tomorrow.

Tell MK I said happy birthday, and I’m really proud he is a big boy.
Sorry I didn’t get a chance to call for his b’day – this ten hour time difference makes it sort of impossible to call at a time when you aren’t busy with kids, or asleep.
The cake looks really good! I’m well impressed, innit?
love,
r.
Hahahaha! Awwwwwww. And you are such a lovely mum to make them for him. And FOUR?! What the? Your youngest is four! What a spin out. In a lovely way.
And the cake is AWESOME! I am totally copying it. Maybe for Eid!
PS remember that bag of gifts I have for you all for Eid al-Fitr? Well, howzabout I just send them for Eid al-Adha? Thus cementing myself as worst friend ever. Seriously, I really do apologise. And worst thing? The gifts are really really AVERAGE.
PPS I can’t believe how much I want to come and see yoooooou. We just gave that Little Situation I was telling you about another $1000 on Monday, so it might not be for a while. My heart is sad. Wanna just nick off to Morocco for a girly weekend? Your youngest is four now – that spells freedom. And W and F can get together and watch Batman with the kids all week.
Dude, that’s like the best plan I have ever come up with. SRSLY!
That cake looks fantastic! Your little one is 4 already? MashAllah how fast they grow.
